A New Era of Maternal Health:
Help Sustain Lifesaving Care

In Sierra Leone, the Paul E. Farmer Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) is already transforming care for mothers and newborns—your support will help ensure it continues to save lives every day.

Expanding Care for Mothers and Newborns

The Paul E. Farmer Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE), built with Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health, is a national referral hospital and teaching facility designed to radically expand access to high-quality maternal and newborn care in Kono District.

With 120 beds, surgical capacity, and the country’s first neonatal intensive care unit, the MCOE strengthens a health system that has already made remarkable progress—while training the next generation of clinicians to deliver safe, dignified care.

This isn’t just a new facility. The MCOE marks a new era for Kono District, where data, evidence, and community care drive lasting progress in maternal health year after year.

At a time when systems of care are being scaled back around the world, continued investment is critical. Your donation helps ensure this level of care remains available for every mother who needs it.

In Sierra Leone, women face a 1 in 74 lifetime risk of dying in childbirth.
The Maternal Center of Excellence is changing that.

Accompaniment in Maternal Care

Every day at Koidu Government Hospital in Sierra Leone, where the Maternal Center of Excellence now stands, clinicians work alongside mothers to make childbirth safer for them and their babies. In this documentary, follow midwife Sister Patricia as she accompanies Sia Fengai, a first-time mother navigating a high-risk pregnancy.

From the maternal waiting home to the operating theater, this is what continuous, high-quality care looks like—delivered at every step, when it matters most. Your support helps make this care possible.
