Support Partners In Health

Thank you for joining Northeastern University in supporting the work of Partners In Health in Haiti during this crucial time.

Haiti has been at the forefront of all of our hearts and minds. Immediate emergency relief and rebuilding efforts are of critical importance and, undoubtedly, many of you have already extended a helping hand.

But people of Haiti still need our help. The school's first successful event, the Rock Out for Haiti Benefit Concert, raised over $3,600, but we still have a long way to go to reach our campus-wide goal. If you or your student organization would like to be involved in this effort, please contact lutheran.m@husky.neu.edu

“Whatever it takes” comes in many forms - $5 can make all the difference. Our goal is to raise $25,000. Remember: all proceeds generated will go directly to relief efforts in Haiti through the local Boston organization Partners in Health.

Thank you for joining us in our efforts to support Haiti and stay tuned for more events coming up including a soccer tournament and dance! Below is a press release from the first event:

On January 21st, hundreds of Northeastern University students and community members gathered at afterHOURS on Northeastern’s campus to Rock Out for Haiti at a benefit concert for Partners in Health, a Boston-based non-profit health care organization dedicated to providing a ‘preferential option for the poor.’ Partners has been on the ground in rural Haiti for over 20 years and is an integral member of the current earthquake relief efforts through their 'Stand with Haiti' campaign.

Gladys D. Joseph from the Haitian Consulate in Boston was invited, and attended the event to share her insight into the tragedy that inspired the evening.

The benefit concert, which was organized in under a week to quickly fundraise emergency relief for Haiti, drew over 500 attendees and raised over $3,600.  Local bands Baylock and Mission Hill headlined the event.

Joseph Beare, a Northeastern student, described the event: “It was nice to have an outlet for support; donating $20 to a charity online seems so little but being a small part of a $3500 donation that will all go to support Haiti feels like a real difference.”

All of the funds raised will go directly to earthquake relief efforts in Haiti through Partners in Health. The student groups are still accepting donations online (http://act.pih.org/page/outreach/view/personal/NEUSEI) and will be initiating a campus-wide challenge in order to inspire the entire Northeastern community to work towards fundraising a combined goal of $25,000 for Haiti in the next month.

The concert was organized by Net Impact, the Social Enterprise Institute, Haitian Student Unity, and over 10 other student groups and Greek organizations on campus. It was also sponsored largely by local businesses, including the Wine Bottega, ACE Ticket, Fern, Johnny Cupcakes, Wempe, the Parish Cafe, Espresso Royale Cafe, Boston Brokerage Group, Boloco, Gnoman Copy and many more.
