Mosaic flower in Children's Ward by Laurel True The mosaic mural in the front of the hospital has become the centerpiece attraction for all visitors, leaving a lasting impression on all who pass through. Mosaic artwork in the pediatric ward and children's playroom will have an even greater transformative effect, particularly on the sick children who are being treated at the Mirebalais Hospital. Treating disease is more than giving medicine -- it's also creating a warm, nurturing environment in which healing can take place. Laurel's work, designed by children in both the US and in Haiti, will create a new paradigm for healing spaces in the developing world. - Dr. David Walton, Director, Mirebalais Teaching Hospital, Partners In Health ******* "Laurel True's wonderful murals will be part of our new hospital in Mirebalais, a complex designed to be as beautiful as it is functional: to confer dignity alongside the fruits of modern medicine. We are grateful to True Mosaics and to the art community for making possible this important work in Haiti." - Dr. Paul Farmer, Co-Founder, Partners In Health
Mosaic Artwork for Pediatrics Ward and Children's Playroom at Mirebalais Hospital My name is Laurel True and I am a professional artist and educator. I have specialized in public, architectural and community-based mosaic projects for the last 20 years. Over the last year, I have been working with Partners In Health to raise funds to bring mosaic artwork to the walls, pavements and courtyards of Mirebalais Hospital, a state-of-the-art teaching hospital being built by Partners In Health, set to open its doors later this year. In 2011, through grass-roots, community-driven fundraising, we successfully funded three architectural ceramic tile mosaic projects for Mirebalais Hospital. These projects were created with the help of Haitian tradespeople and artists, who I trained in architectural mosaic making techniques, offering economic development opportunities through arts training and providing jobs for community members in Mirebalais. The mosaics at Mirebalais Hospital have united art and medicine, beautifying the hospital environment and bringing joy to hospital visitors, staff and volunteers. After the hospital opens, thousands upon thousands of hospital patients from Haiti's central region will see these public art installations. We were able to fund and create these Phase One mosaic projects with the help of donors like you. THANK YOU! ********************************************************************************************************************************************* Mosaic Artwork for Pediatrics Ward and Children's Playroom at Mirebalais Hospital Now we are actively raising funds for Phase Two of the MOSAICS FOR MIREBALAIS HOSPITAL PROJECT, which will include the creation of vibrant, playful ceramic tile mosaic murals and enhancements in the Pediatrics Ward and Children's Playroom of the hospital. Design development for this project will be done with the help of Haitian and American school children through a cross-cultural design process that will focus on the themes of nature, play and education, adding a soothing element to Haitian childrens' hospital experience.
Colorful mosaics will cover the walls of both the main pediatrics ward and the attached playroom, built especially for children at the hospital. We are very excited about this phase of the Mosaics For Mirebalais Hospital Project and we hope you will share in our excitement and support or efforts to raise funds to cover the costs for this worthy project.
WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

WHY is ART a CRITICAL COMPONENT in the HEALING ENVIRONMENT?
Carole Romm, MPA, RN "An integral part of healing is caring and comfort. Art is a bridge between those two factors. Inspiring, emotive art helps create a space where a hospital becomes hospitable." Agamemnon Otero, Former hospital patient "Original art on the walls is a source of pride and sense of value for clinicians and patients. It can embody the core values of the health care practice, such as cultural diversity, collaboration, quality, integrity, compassion." Sally Retecki, Consultant, Art In Healing Spaces
