I have been asked in the past couple of days which Haitian focused charities I would recommend. Most are either unimpressive or untrustworthy and the two most popular ones are charities that do not have resources on the ground or whose resources are not specifically suited for the HELL that my country is going to go through in the next few months. I know of one, and its the charity I am donating money to. Partners in Health (PIH). PIH is the largest nongovernmental health care provider in Haiti. It was started by Paul Farmer, an American that speaks Creole, is married to a Haitian woman, has three kids AND HE CONSIDERS HAITI HOME! Very admirable. PIH's resources are sure to be strained in the coming months since they deal specifically with healthcare. Thank you for giving to a great organization with resources already on the ground. When a Person in Peru, or Siberia, or rural Haiti falls ill, PIH uses all of the means at our disposal to make them well… Whatever it takes. Just as we would do if a member of our own family—or we ourselves—were ill. |
