The local Bainbridge Island Partners In Health group is hosting a 5-mile fundraising walk called Bainbridge Island Strides for Solidarity at the Bainbridge High School Track and Stadium on Saturday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m. (On-site registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and a warm-up with Island Fitness instructors begins at 1:00 p.m.)
PIH follows a philosophy of accompaniment, working side by side with health professionals and patients. Community Health Workers are at the heart of this approach. They find people living far from clinics and in need of treatment. Every day community health workers walk hundreds of miles to homes to ensure patients receive medication and support. The walk honors PIH community health workers (CHWs) around the world. The motto for the Strides for Solidarity event is We Walk Because They Walk.
You can register for the walk by clicking on the following link: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/bainbridge-island-strides-for-solidarity-tickets-11094450801?aff=rss or by going to Eventbrite.com and searching for Bainbridge Island Strides for Solidarity. If you would prefer to register in-person, you can go to Island Fitness and fill out a paper registration form there. The donation for the walk is $25 per person and with that you receive a free locally designed t-shirt! If you register by Friday, April 25, you will be able to get your t-shirt at the event! Otherwise, it will be available for pick up about 10 days after the event.
The walk will be at the BHS track and will consist of 20 laps (or as many as desired!) on a nice smooth surface that is friendly for strollers and wheelchairs. There will be interactive cards that describe community health workers, music, a raffle, and prizes for the person raising the most additional funds. It will be a fun time!
