Girl Rising is a groundbreaking film, directed by Academy Award nominee Richard Robbins, which tells the stories of 9 extraordinary girls from 9 countries, written by 9 celebrated writers and narrated by 9 renowned actresses. "When girls are not educated that means eventually, by and large that mothers won't be educated and when mothers are not educated that means they often live in poverty, when they live in poverty their children are vulnerable to all sorts of illnesses including those that could have easily been prevented. The downside of not having girls' education is enormous; we don't even have the proper metrics to assess what we have lost by failing to invest equitably in girls' education. You will never break the cycle of poverty and disease without educating girls; it just won't happen."
